Odds & Ends
This is my "catch all" page for things that don't quite fit on any of the other pages........
Here is my first mod to the car. I really wanted to update the gauges to something that was more suited to the look and style of the car, so I picked up these white "euro" style glow
gauge overlays from
www.procarparts.com. I thought it would be a quick install, but it actually took about 3 hours. I was surprised that I ended up having to super glue the oil
pressure overlay in place as there was no way to attach it properly. It seems to have worked fine, just didn't like doing it that way. While I had the needles off, I scraped off the
remains of the original orange paint and then re-painted them with some metallic amber model paint I had. They look much nicer now. These will glow in either blue or green, but the
green looks to "mint ice cream green" for me, so blue it is.
Dyno testing!
even though the car was not running correctly at the time due to a problem with the fuel injectors.

The results showed what I had felt, that the TVIS system leveled out the torque curve early on, but with it disconnected, there was a stronger "hit" when nailing the throttle at
mid range. Horsepower varied by only 1 or 2 hp regardless of the TVIS being connected after 4000 RPM, although it was slightly better at 3500 (5 hp). The only time the
RPM's are that low is at cruise on the freeway, in which case, the 5 HP doesn't really matter.

Now that I've replaced the flaky injectors with a better set and also changed the timing belt, adjusted the valves and installed my under drive water pump pulley, I'd be
interested to go back to the dyno to see how it does. It will probably be after Christmas before I have time and money to make another trip to the dyno though. By then I
hope to have my intake manifold finished and installed, so that should help too.

Disregard the pink line, as the timing was retarded causing the big power loss.
The red line was with the engine not quite warmed up yet.
The green line was warmed up with the TVIS disconnected
The blue line was warmed up but with the TVIS connected.
I FINALLY found a car in the junkyard with a good, complete black interior roof panel, along with all the trim, so now it's in my bar. It was gray before which REALLY bugged me - seriously, who
puts a gray interior roof into a car with a black interior? Toyota must have had a bunch of leftover gray material or something. Anyway, it's black now and I'm a happy camper!

I still need to re-cover the factory leather seats. I really like the way they hold you in place and are still very comfortable for long trips, so I'm going to stick with them.

The tint on the sunroof is so that I still get some light through without the sun glaring in. I do have the original snap in cover, but usually I prefer the extra light.

Remember that this cannot take aerodynamics, rolling resistance etc., into account. This is strictly mathematical
based on RPM, gear ratio and tire size.
