GE to the Royal Barge Museum
These are just a few pictures of these remarkable Royal
Barges, used to transport the Royal Family on Thailands
many rivers. My favorite is Suphannahong - the one with the
bird looking bow in the upper left image. It is about 150 feet
long and
carved from a single tree! The image below is of
The Royal Tassel which hangs from the tip of the bow.
Just across the Chao Phraya River
is
Wat Arun  - the Temple of Dawn,
pictured left.
The point of this GE pushpin is the
guard pictured below left.

The large building just below that
houses the reclining Buddha.
Wat Pho (Po), known as The Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is also located in Bangkok about a block away from the
Grand Palace. The Buddha is 145 feet long and about 4 1/2 stories high. The two figures below are a detail from the
soles of the Buddhas feet. The people in the upper right photo will give you an idea of the size of the soles and the
amount of work required to inlay the 108 forms of the Buddha designs with Mother Of Pearl. The craftsmanship in this
work of art is simply breath taking.
